Tim Roberts, Founder and Director of the
program notes here why he and his organization want to do this work.
This was written for his staff originally, in the staff handbook.
"I started the B.R.I.C.K. program in 1996 in reaction to the anger, sadness and tragedy that surrounded me within the community that I was working. I was struck by the lack of self-esteem and community structure which left a community, particularly young men, paralyzed in a mode of self-destruction. The year before B.R.I.C.K. began; I lost three guys to the social ills in the streets. Despite the relationship that I had with these young men, the community fragmentation in collaboration with no support systems ended winning and I lost these young men to the ultimate end." |
